Who we are

Backpack Aus (backpackaus.com.au) is run by Drew Potts, a sole trader based in Queensland, Australia. Contact us at hello@backpackaus.com.au.

Using the site

The site and its tools (the 88-day tracker, postcode checker, guides, map and resume builder) are free. Information about visas, tax, super and pay is general guidance only, not legal, migration or financial advice. Always check with the Department of Home Affairs, the ATO and the Fair Work Ombudsman.

When you post on the map or community, you must be truthful, respectful and lawful. No scams, spam, harassment, or other people’s personal details. We may remove posts and accounts that break these rules.

Job listings (for employers)

  • Standard listings are free and run for 30 days.
  • Featured listings cost A$19 and are pinned to the top of the jobs board for 30 days, with a Featured badge, and listed first in job alert emails.
  • 5-packs cost A$69: the job you post at checkout is featured, and we email you a code for 4 more featured listings. Pack codes don’t expire.
  • Prices are in Australian dollars. We are not currently registered for GST, so no GST is charged.
  • Payments are processed securely by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

Every listing is checked before it goes live, usually within one business day. By posting, you confirm the job is real, pays at least the legal minimum under the relevant award, provides payslips, and complies with Australian law. If a job says it counts toward the 88 days, you confirm you’ve checked the postcode and industry with Home Affairs.

We may refuse or remove listings that are misleading, unlawful, charge workers fees, or don’t meet these terms.

Refunds

If we reject your featured listing, we refund it in full. If your listing is removed because it breaks these terms, it is not refunded. Otherwise, if something isn’t right, email us within 7 days of payment and we’ll make it right — usually with a refund or extra listing time. Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Links to other businesses

Some links to hostels, insurance, tours and products are affiliate links — see how we make money. Those businesses are responsible for their own services.

Liability

We work hard to keep information accurate, but jobs, rooms, rides and listings are posted by others and we can’t guarantee them. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses from using the site or dealing with other users or employers. Our total liability for a paid listing is limited to what you paid for it.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed. These terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia.
