Where to stay
- CBD — central and well connected, inside the Free Tram Zone.
- St Kilda — beachside, lively, lots of hostels.
- Fitzroy and Collingwood — cafés, bars and live music.
- Brunswick — cheaper share houses, great food.
Finding work
Melbourne runs on coffee — a barista course pays for itself fast here. Hospitality, retail and events (the Australian Open in January, Grand Prix, festivals) hire lots of casual staff.
For your 88 days, regional Victoria is close: Shepparton, Mildura and the Yarra Valley are all within a few hours.
