Work
All Tasmanian postcodes are regional Australia, so farm work, construction and other specified industries count anywhere in the state. Cherry season (around December–January) and apples (around March–May) bring in a lot of pickers, especially in the Huon and Derwent Valleys and the north-west.
Harvest calendarGetting there and around
Fly into Hobart or Launceston, or take the Spirit of Tasmania ferry from Geelong with your car or van. Public transport is limited outside the cities — a car makes life much easier.
Must-dos
- Salamanca Market in Hobart (Saturdays).
- MONA museum.
- Cradle Mountain and Freycinet’s Wineglass Bay.
- Bruny Island.
